The Pallet LOOP Appoints Ian Broad as Sales Director

The Pallet LOOP is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Broad as Sales Director, following the recent appointment of Dan McKane as Business Development Director.

This appointment marks another significant step forward for the business, as it continues to scale the adoption of its reusable pallet scheme across the UK construction supply chain.

Ian joins The Pallet LOOP following an outstanding 37-year career at Tarmac, where he held a range of senior commercial and leadership roles. Throughout his career, Ian built a reputation for consistent performance, commercial discipline, and strong relationship building, guiding teams through periods of major industry change, including consolidation, increased regulation, sustainability demands, and evolving customer expectations.

Andy Williamson, Managing Director of The Pallet LOOP, commented: “Ian brings an exceptional depth of experience and credibility to the business. His understanding of the construction supply chain, combined with his commercial leadership and values-driven approach, makes him ideally suited to help accelerate adoption of Pallet LOOP across the industry. We are delighted to welcome him to the team at a pivotal moment in our journey.”

Reflecting on his move, Ian said: “At Tarmac, I learned the importance of long-term thinking; building strong relationships, maintaining operational discipline and doing the right thing, even when it is not the easiest option. Those principles are more relevant than ever, and they strongly align with what The Pallet LOOP is setting out to achieve.”

The Pallet LOOP represents a fundamental change in how pallets are used within the construction sector. By replacing the traditional single use pallet model with a reusable and trackable system, the scheme is designed to reduce waste, cut carbon emissions, and deliver greater efficiency and transparency throughout the supply chain.

“For many years, sustainability was discussed alongside commercial priorities,” said Ian. “What has changed is that it is now inseparable from them. The Pallet LOOP is a rare example of an initiative where environmental responsibility and commercial value genuinely go hand in hand.”

In his role as Sales Director, Ian will focus on driving industry adoption; strengthening partnerships with merchants, manufacturers, and contractors; and ensuring customers see clear and measurable benefits from participating in the scheme. His experience of managing complex supply chains and aligning diverse stakeholders will be instrumental in supporting The Pallet LOOP’s next phase of growth.

“Change only succeeds when it works for everyone involved,” Ian added. “My role is to listen, to challenge where necessary, and to help customers understand that reuse is not a burden. It is an opportunity.”

For Ian, the move also represents a personal milestone. After nearly four decades within a traditional construction materials business, joining The Pallet LOOP offers the chance to help shape the future of the industry.

“I am proud of my career at Tarmac,” he said. “But this feels like the right next step. The Pallet LOOP is not just improving a process. It is helping redefine how our industry thinks about responsibility, efficiency, and the future.”
