Distinguished industry leader will help circular economy business as it embarks on exciting new phase

The Pallet LOOP has appointed Andy Williamson, former Commercial Director of SIG PLC, as Director of Business Development. Andy joins The Pallet LOOP after working with the team for the last six months as a Non-Executive Director (NED). His appointment comes at an incredibly exciting time for the business, as it gears up for the roll out of its green circular economy pallets in the next few months.

Over the past thirty years, Andy – who is well-known throughout UK construction, and highly respected at all levels of the industry – has held notable roles at some of the sector’s biggest organisations. Before SIG, he held a number of senior positions including some Non-Executive Director roles. Prior to that he was UK Group Managing Director of IKO Group – the flat roofing, waterproofing and surfacing experts.

Passionate about the construction industry, Andy has also served as a manufacturer representative across numerous trade associations including the NFRC (National Federation of Roofing Contractors), BMF (Builders Merchant Federation), IMA (Insulation Manufacturers Association) and the CPA (Construction Products Association).

Commenting on his appointment, Andy said: “I am incredibly excited about helping The Pallet LOOP as it works to transform the delivery of building materials nationwide – for the better.  UK construction has some major challenges to address if it is to hit its decarbonisation targets. To help the Government deliver on its commitment to net zero emissions by 2050, our sector really must start doing things differently. As major deadlines hurtle down the tracks towards us, innovative companies like The Pallet LOOP will become increasingly pivotal – providing a practical alternative to working practices that clearly need up updating and an easy pathway to achieving environmental improvements on the scale required. I look forward to working with Paul and the team as the business ramps up its work.”

Welcoming Andy to the team, Paul Lewis, Founder of The Pallet LOOP, said: “Andy understood the aims and objectives of The Pallet LOOP from the outset. An early advocate of our approach, he’s championed our business from the outside. Now, as part of the team, he’ll be able to amplify our voice even further – helping us progress conversations with key stakeholders throughout the building materials supply chain. Personally, and professionally, I’m grateful to Andy for his support. As a team, we are delighted he is joining us as we work to get the sector in the LOOP and reduce the carbon footprint of construction.”

Built around the principles of circular economics, The Pallet LOOP is on the cusp of delivering a widespread shift in how building materials are moved around the UK. With a range of green pallets that are engineered to be used again and again, and a nationwide pallet collection service, The Pallet LOOP is designed to have a positive financial and environmental impact on all parts of the construction supply chain, from building material manufacturers, to merchants, to end users.

To incentivise the return of its green pallets, when they enter the market, The Pallet LOOP will be offering merchants, distributors, principal contractors, and housebuilding companies a PayBack of up to £4 for every green LOOP pallet they return. This financial reward, for doing the right thing and putting green pallets back in the LOOP, will be in addition to the savings that pallet recipients will make from using The Pallet LOOP’s nationwide collection service, which works out considerably cheaper than putting pallets in wood skips.

Companies can already register for pallet collections, with The Pallet LOOP picking up single use pallets nationwide. To get in the LOOP and set up an account, just email: setmeup@thepalletloop.com
